Touching Grass & Making Memories

My hobbies since a kid have always been things like graphic design, video editing, gaming, digital painting etc. So my comfort usually came from being in my room on some sort of gadget.

In recent years I can appreciate how therapeutic it is to go out into nature, but even so I didn’t take advantage of it as much as I should. It would only really be for big trips like going to the beach etc with family or friends.

This year I went up Mt. Snowdon and have gotten into running a fair bit more. So relative to other years I have definitely upped the exposure to nature. More particularly I go to a reservoir a few times a week for runs or even for a walk, and compared to being in a hospital for placement most days of the week, I have felt much less anxious or stressed. The weather being so great recently has definitely contributed to this, but nonetheless I have been feeling great.

Usually when running I’ll have my earphones, but when walking i take them out and make a conscious effort to take in my surroundings. Feels quite cringe to say that, but doing that makes me feel a lot more grounded and I tend to actually remember what I’ve done that day instead of it just being a blur.

Majority of the time I’m in the company of one or two of my best friends and its a reason for us to catch up and talk about life, our goals etc and it is something I really enjoy and know I’ll look back on fondly.

I’m a very nostalgic person, this has only been the case in the past few years, but I always find myself looking back on memories. Even in the midst of an activity I’ll end up thinking about how I’m going to miss this day at some point in the future. Whilst that is a bit depressing lol, its made me much more conscious of capturing memories which I think is a good thing. I’m much more keen to take snap recordings or BeReals of nice moments whilst they’re happening.

Not sure exactly what the message in with this post, but I guess the moral of the story is to go outside and make memories (& capture them).
